Mount Colah 1 Apartments

This project is located between the railway line on one side and the highway on the other. These constraints created considerable design challenges, including managing noise pollution, ensuring safe access points, and addressing vibration impacts from the railway. Rigorous work was required to develop solutions that met the conditions for approval. Furthermore, the existing main sewer line traversed the middle of the site and required diversion around the building canopy. This involved detailed planning and the construction of a new sewer route that maintained proper flow gradients. Specialized excavation techniques were employed to avoid damaging nearby structures. Upgrading the side road was another task that needed to be addressed including approvals from the local council and the Road and Maritime Authorities.

Minor changes were made to tweak the design and enhance the final product. These included adjustments to openings placements for improved natural lighting, the incorporation of soundproofing materials to reduce noise from the surrounding infrastructure, and refinements to landscaping to better integrate the building into its natural surroundings. These changes included the use of the latest materials and trends to accommodate applicable regulations and standards. The outcome was pleasantly appealing, reflecting higher privacy through strategic placement of openings and the use of natural barriers such as dense vegetation. The building’s integration into the natural landscape, with carefully designed rooflines and façade treatments, contributed to its visual impression of a much smaller structure, blending seamlessly with its surroundings.
